Aytaj Shikhalizada was born in 1993 in Baku, Azerbaijan, where the mezzo-soprano graduated from the Baku Music Academy in 2016. This was followed by another master's degree at the University of music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Prof. Claudia Visca. Already during her training she gained her first experiences, for example with excerpts from the title role of "Carmen" and as a soloist at the Gabala International Music Festival. In 2012, she won the Hope prize at the International Byul-Byul competition, and in 2014 the third place of the Russian M. Magomaev International Vocalists Contest. In 2017, she participated in the Bertelsmann Foundation's "new voices" competition. She is also a fellow of the president of Azerbaijan as well as of the Thyll-Dürr Foundation in Vienna. In 2016, Aytaj Shikhalizada made her debut at the Schlosstheater Schönbrunn in Vienna as Olga in " Eugen Onegin "and as Charlotte in"Werther". In 2018, in the new production of "L'italiana in Algeri" (Salzburg Whitsun Festival), she took over the role of Isabella in a guest performance of the Salzburg ensemble as part of a concert performance at the Opéra Royal de Versailles under Jean-Christophe Spinosi. In the season 2018/19 she was shown at the theater Dortmund as Nofretete in "Echnaton" and as Rosina in "Il barbiere di Siviglia". Aytaj Shikhalizada is a scholar of the Liz Mohn culture and music Foundation, and a member of the International Opera Studio of the Staatsoper unter den Linden, from the season 2019/20.
