From driving folk dances to jazz-inflected melodies and Latin American boleros, this programme promises vibrant contrasts and lyrical brilliance.Violinist/violist David Núñez and pianist Clara Rodriguez present a programme that journeys from Eastern European folk dances to jazz-influenced sonatas and Latin American boleros. The evening opens with Béla Bartók’s Romanian Folk Dances, whose driving rhythms and folk-inspired motifs evoke Transylvanian peasant traditions. Next, the UK premiere of Modesta Bor’s Sonata for Viola and Piano pays tribute to the composer’s centenary, melding classical structure with folkloric warmth. Maurice Ravel’s Sonata for Violin and Piano follows, its blues-inflected passages and shimmering harmonies exploring impressionistic color. George Gershwin’s Three Preludes brings unmistakable jazz idioms, while Aldemaro Romero’s El Catire reflects the pioneering spirit of the onda nueva. The concert concludes with María Grever’s bolero Cuando vuelva a tu lado, delivered with tender lyricism.
