About
The Wervelwind Ensemble is a wind instrument in a special line-up: the ensemble consists of a combination of flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn / trombone and bass clarinet.
The Wervelwind Ensemble is currently touring the Netherlands with Zwier, the music performance for children from 1 to 4 years and their (grand) parents.
The Wervelwind Ensemble plays contemporary music. With this music the ensemble does not focus so much on the seasoned concert visitor but on those who will be introduced to live, "classical" music: the young audience.
The goal is to bring these young people into contact with them in a special way.
That is why we opt for music theater. So: the Wervelwind Ensemble tells a musical story, plays the music by heart, without barriers from music stands and sheet music, and communicates directly with the audience.
That is why we also opt for music education. We visit the young audience and work with them. Central to this is the feeling of being a co-owner. By putting young people to work themselves, the ensemble wants to stimulate the imagination and creativity. But also: transferring the pleasure of making and playing music.
The Wervelwind Ensemble plays for a society-wide audience. The ensemble has set itself the goal of introducing people who normally do not come into contact with live "classical" music so quickly with the beauty and power of this art form. To actually reach all those children, the Wervelwind plays not only in theaters, but also in the gyms of schools or in community centers: where there are no facilities, the Wervelwind Ensemble visits its audience.
The Wervelwind Ensemble has already made the youth opera Jimmy (2007) and the music performance Smak! (2011).
