Rodolphe Briand began his career as an actor / singer and director of the theatre company Les Galas Panique. In 1994, he began a career in opera under the guidance of J.-P. Blivet. He entered the École d’Art Lyrique and then the Paris Opera’s Centre de formation lyrique.
In 1997 he won the Concours International de Marseille. He has performed in theatres and opera houses across France (Avignon, Vichy, Paris (Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and the Théâtre du Châtelet), Nancy, Montpellier, Nantes, Angers, Saint-Étienne, Tours, Toulouse, Strasbourg, Bordeaux, Lyon and the Chorégies d’Orange Festival…) where he has interpreted the roles of Monostatos (The Magic Flute), Alfred (Die Fledermaus), Monsieur Triquet (Eugène Onéguine), Pedrillo (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), le Remendado (Carmen), Bardolfo (Falstaff), Altoum (Turandot), the Incredible (Andrea Chénier), the Brazilian (La Vie parisienne), Paillasse (Les Saltimbanques), the four valets in the Contes d’Hoffmann, Don Basilio (Les Noces de Figaro), Goro (Madame Butterfly), the Tree Frog and old man Arithmetic (L’Enfant et les sortilèges), the Noctambulist (Louise), Guillot de Morfontaine (Manon), Falsacappa (Les Brigands), Sancho (The Man of Mancha), Fritz (La Grande Duchesse de Gérolstein), Ménélas (La Belle Hélène), and Trabucco (La Forza del destino)… He has made guest appearances at the Grand Théâtre de Genève (Spoletta in Tosca, the title role in Philippe Fénelon’s JJR, Citoyen de Genève, Paul in La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein), La Scala in Milan (le Remendado, the four valets and Spalanzani in the Contes d’Hoffmann, Guillot de Morfontaine in Manon), the Opéra Royal de Wallonie (The Incredible, the Brazilian), the Opéra de Monte-Carlo (Nick in La Fanciulla del West, Sancho Pança in The Man of La Mancha, Mime in Rheingold, Spoletta), the Opéra de Bordeaux (John Styx in Orphée aux Enfers), the Fenice in Venice (le Remendado), the MUPA in Budapest (Monostatos under the direction of Ivan Fischer), the Opéra de Marseille (Bardolfo in Falstaff), and the Edinburgh Festival (Don Basilio and Don Curzio in The Marriage of Figaro). At the Paris Opera, he has performed the roles of Don Curzio, Spalanzani (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Joe (La Fanciulla del West) and Monostatos.
