Trained at the École Supérieure d'Art Dramatique of the National Theater of Strasbourg, Philippe Berthomé created in 1994, the lights of Hervé Guibert's Vole mon dragon staged by Stanislas Nordey for the Festival d'Avignon.

This collaboration with Stanislas Nordey continued in 1999 with Pasolini's play Porcherie, presented at the Théâtre Gérard Philipe in Saint-Denis, and then with Feydeau's La puce à l'oreille and Hofmannsthal's Electre at Théâtre National de la Colline in 2003 and 2007. Also with Das system and My secret Garden by Falk Richter at the Festival d'Avignon 2008 and 2010, and finally Finding Pirandello with Emmanuelle Béart and Black Animal Sadness at Théâtre National de la Colline in 2012 and 2013. For the director stage Eric Lacascade, he creates the lights of Platonov Chekhov at the Court of Honor Festival of Avignon 2002, Ibsen's Hedda Gabler with Isabelle Huppert at the National Theater of the Odeon and The Barbarians of Gorky, for a return to the 2006 Avignon Festival Cour d'Honneur, also performed at the Herodes Atticus Antique Theater in Athens. It also enlightens the Estivants de Gorky at the Théâtre National de Bretagne and more recently Tartuffe created at the Théâtre de Vidy-Lausanne. He also signs the lights of Jean-François Sivadier's shows, Beaumarchais' Marriage of Figaro in 2000, Brecht's Life of Galileo in 2002, Shakespeare's King Lear, at the 2007 Avignon Festival's Cour d'Honneur Lady from Maxim's, Noli me tangere and the Misanthrope, at the National Theater of the Odeon. Philippe Berthomé also illuminates opera productions. For Stanislas Nordey, he signs inter alia Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire lights, Stravinsky's Rossignol directed by Pierre Boulez at Théâtre du Châtelet in 1997, Peter Eötvös' Three Sisters at the Hamburg Staatsoper in 1999, Jeanne at Honegger's pyre at the Triennale de la Ruhr in 2003, Messian's Saint-François d'Assise at the Opéra Bastille in 2004, Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande at the Osterfestspiele 2006 in Salzburg and the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden in London, Mélancholia de Georg Freidrich Haas at the Palais Garnier in 2008 and Wagner's Lohengrin at the Staatsoper Stuttgart in 2009. For Jean-François Sivadier, he created at the Lille Opera, the lights of Madame Butterfly in 2004, Wozzeck in 2007, Les Noces de Figaro in 2008, Carmen in 2010, The Barber of Seville and La Traviata with Natalie Dessay at the Archdiocese of the Aix Festival 2011. Very recently, he illuminates Hansel and Gretel at the Palais Garnier broadcast live in the cinemas of 'Europe. Finally, Philippe Berthomé enlighten Jane Birkin's Children of Winter and Jane via Japan singing tricks, Wajdi Mouawad's Ciels at the 2009 Avignon Festival and the Douarnenez Maritime Festival 2010 and 2012.
