Philipp Stölzl was born in Munich in 1967. Originally a stage designer, later a music video director and advertising filmmaker, he shares his professional life between music theatre and cinema film. The son of the historian and politician Christoph Stölzl begins his career as assistant to costume designers and stage designers such as Jürgen Rose, Ezio Toffolutti and Volker Pfüller. Then, as a stage designer of Armin Petras, it goes out to the province, later Johanna Schall becomes his second permanent working partner at the Deutsche Theater Berlin.
At the end of Twenty then career change. Philipp Stölzl begins to work as a supplier of ideas in the Austrian music film legends Dolezal and Rossacher. A Video for Rammstein quickly brings him success, works for Stars such as Marius Müller Westernhagen, Pavarotti, Madonna and Mick Jagger follow, as well as international advertising films for brands such as BMW, Nokia, Sony and Rolex. At mid-thirty, Philipp Stölzl turns his first feature film, the tragicomedy Baby. Working for the cinema becomes a passion. This is followed by the historical Bergfilm "Nordwand" and "Goethe", which deals with the emergence of Werther. At the end of thirty, the stage returns unplanned in Philipp Stölzl's life. A "freischütz"-production in Meiningen, Germany, with Philipp Stölzl directing, and stage design takes over, becomes a surprise success. This is followed by productions at the Salzburg Festival, the Ruhrtriennale, the Opera Basel, the Stuttgart State Opera and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. For the next few years, work is planned at the Wiener Festwochen and the Deutsche Oper Berlin as well as the film adaptation of Noah Gordon's "the Medicus". Philipp Stölzl has two children and lives in Berlin.
