Julius Heise is jazz musician, composer, engineer, informatics student and lives in Berlin. Since 2018 he teaches jazz vibraphone at the Jazz Institute Berlin. He records several Jazz CDs yearly, latest including ‘Murmuration‘ with the Bernhard Meyer Quintet and ‘Joyceful‘ with the singer Marie Séférian.
His music projects include body percussion, vibraphone improvisations, theater music, performances, jazz bands, big bands, electronics and silent movie music. In his technical career he worked at predictive maintenance for trains, data science and internet of things applications.
2016 Julius composed theater music for the Berliner Ensemble and Konzerthaus Berlin. He produced his first own CDs 2015 and 2014, the soloalbum ‘solophone calling‘ and the trio album ‘now‘.
From 2011 to 2007 he studied at the Jazz Insitut Berlin under David Friedman, Mario Würzebesser, John Hollenbeck and Christian von der Goltz. Prior to that, he went to school at the Berlin music gymnasium C.-P.-E.-Bach while being a young student at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in jazz and classic percussion.
In the age of five he got his first lessons in percussion (by Gabór Bolyan), piano and music theory in his childhood town Neustrelitz. During that time he also sang in a choir, played orchestra percussion and started his first band. Julius is born 1987 in Neubrandenburg.
