Guido Gärtner studied violin at the Academy of Music "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin with Stephan Picard.
With his string quartet he was also a student of the chamber music class of Eberhard Feltz. After graduation, he completed an additional study with Mauricio Fuks at Indiana University as part of the Performer Diploma. He received further important musical impulses from Thomas Kakuska, Walter Levin and János Starker. During his two-year stay in the US, he was a fellow of the German-American Fulbright Commission and the DAAD. Since 2008 he is a member of the Bavarian State Orchestra. As managing director of the Konzertgesellschaft mbH of the Bavarian State Orchestra, he also organizes and is responsible for the non-official projects and orchestral tours of the State Orchestra since 2011. In the course of this activity, he completed in 2016 as a continuing education course, the Executive Master of Arts Administration of the University of Zurich.
