Overview

The love continues with the graceful dance of “transforming into butterflies”, Yuan Fan’s version of Yue Opera “Liang Zhu” continues the legend!

"For three years, we recited poems together and read them together. One day, I turned into a butterfly and accompanied you back."

“A good play never tires of being sung a hundred times, and the actors shine on the stage.”

The Yue Opera "Liang Zhu" tells the story of an ancient woman named Zhu Yingtai, who disguised herself as a man to go to Hangzhou to study, and became brothers with her classmate Liang Shanbo. The two of them fell in love with each other, and after a life-and-death separation, they both turned into butterflies.

While maintaining the essence of the original story, this play incorporates the unique artistic style of Yue Opera, and injects a strong Jiangnan style into "Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai" with its unique singing and melody. Classic singing segments such as "Eighteen Farewells" and "Meeting on the Tower" have beautiful melodies and sincere and moving emotional expressions. The actors use their superb singing skills to fully display the emotions and inner world of the characters, making the audience feel as if they are in the story and experiencing the joys and sorrows with the characters.

Synopsis

In ancient times, Zhu Yingtai, a woman from Shangyu, Zhejiang, disguised herself as a man and went to Hangzhou to study. On the way, she met Liang Shanbo, a scholar from Kuaiji who also went to Hangzhou to study. The two became like-minded and became brothers. Liang and Zhu were classmates for three years and formed a deep friendship. Before Zhu Yingtai returned to Shangyu, she told her teacher's wife about her disguise as a man and asked her to act as a matchmaker to invite Liang Shanbo to Zhujiazhuang to propose marriage.

However, Zhu's father betrothed Zhu Yingtai to the son of the governor. Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai met on the rooftop, but they were not destined to be married. When Zhu Yingtai said goodbye to Liang Shanbo, they promised to live and die together.

Liang Shanbo was devastated by this and died soon after. When Zhu Yingtai heard the bad news, she went to Liang's house to mourn despite her father's objection, and was heartbroken.

On the day of her wedding, Zhu Yingtai jumped into Liang Shanbo's tomb. This couple, who could not become husband and wife in their lifetime, finally turned into beautiful butterflies and flew together after their death.
