Overview

Brahms wrote his final large-scale orchestral work in his 50s with much trepidation, partly because he wasn’t a string player and his friendship with Joachim had also turned sour. Fortunately, the composer’s Double Concerto became a token of reconciliation. This concert features two string virtuosos Alexandra Conunova and Pablo Ferrández, respectively the 2012 Joseph Joachim Competition winner and young performer signed by SONY record company. Brahms’s Symphony No. 1 is often jokingly referred to as Beethoven’s Tenth (with some even seeing hints of Beethoven’s Ode to Joy in Brahms’s finale), seamlessly connecting the era of classical romanticism. Being meticulous, Brahms worked on his first symphony for more than a decade, wielding astounding results in a perfect fusion of technical prowess and emotional depth.

Events in Macau - Macau
Location   Macau

Macau is an autonomous territory within China. A Portuguese colony until 1999, Macau has a diverse culture firmly rooted in Cantonese culture, with a mix of influences from East Asia and Western Europe. Macau is known for being the largest gambling center in the world. Opening its doors to rock, pop, and electronic music, with festivals celebrating music and the culture of Macau, the city now hosts events such as the Macau Food Festival, Macau Light Festival, Macau International Music Festival, and Macau Grand Prix. While traditional music is a mix of Chinese and Portuguese tunes, the young generation is experiencing a shift and dabbling into different genres.
