Overview

A Chinese dancer once said that modern dance is so popular in the West because modern dance is getting closer and closer to the audience. This is the biggest difference from traditional dance.

To explain modern dance more specifically, it is a dance genre that emerged in the West at the end of the 19th century and is opposed to classical ballet. The main aesthetic point of view is to oppose the formalist tendency of classical ballet to be conservative, divorced from real life and purely pursue skills.

Modern dance advocates using dance movements that conform to the laws of natural movement to freely express people's true emotions, emphasizing that dance art should reflect modern social life.

From Isadora Duncan, the world-recognized founder of modern dance, to Paul Taylor, one of the founders of American modern dance, modern dance has been developing in a freer and more diverse direction.
