David Frye is an American tenor who has made his career primarily at the Metropolitan Opera. There he has sung 139 performances of small solo roles and has been a member of the regular chorus since 1993.
Prior to joining the Met, he was 6 years with New York City Opera where he sang 19 roles and was a member of the chorus.
Previously he focused on early music, appearing with The Ensemble for Early Music, Pomerium Musices, The Folger Consort, Artek, Voices of Ascension, Musica Sacra, and Concert Royal. He made his Carnegie Hall solo debut with P.D.Q Bach.
He has received 2 Grammy awards as an ensemble member of Dr. Atomic and Nixon in China, and appeared in the movie Scenes from a Mall.
Born August 20, 1957 in Albany , NY and raised in Syracuse NY. He studied at Syracuse University and received a Bachelor of Music from Manhattan School of Music.
