About
Daniel Grossmann is the founder, artistic director and conductor of the JEWISH CHAMBER ORCHESTRA MUNICH. Since it was founded in 2005 under the name Orchester Jakobsplatz München, the ensemble has developed under his leadership into an internationally recognized, professional ensemble at the highest musical level and developed a profile as a contemporary Jewish voice that is unique in Munich's multifaceted cultural life.
In recognition of this tireless work, Daniel Grossmann was awarded the “Pro meritis scientiae et litterarum” prize by the Bavarian Ministry of Science, Research and Art in 2012.
Daniel Grossmann, born in Munich in 1978, comes from a Jewish-Hungarian family. He began his conducting training with Hans-Rudolf Zöbeley in Munich, then studied at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City with Scott Bergeson and at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest with Ervin Lukács.
In addition to his performances with the JEWISH CHAMBER ORCHESTRA MUNICH, Daniel Grossmann is a welcome guest with the Baroque ensemble Capella Savaria, the Hungarian Philharmonic Debrecen, the Georgian Chamber Orchestra Ingolstadt, the Failoni Chamber Orchestra and at chamber concerts of the Bavarian State Orchestra. His extensive discography includes works by Viktor Ullmann, Paul Ben-Haim, John Cage, Marc Neikrug, Iannis Xenakis and Beethoven's 3rd Symphony. The full-length work Nigunim for orchestra by Moritz Gagern, commissioned by JCOM, a contemporary redefinition by Klezmer based on the rough, versatile and largely unknown original, is also available as a recording.
