Benjamin Wäntig, born in Jena, studied music and media studies and German literature at the Humboldt University in Berlin and at the Università Ca’ Foscari in Venice. In 2014, he graduated with a thesis on the orchestration of the Opera by Leoš janáček. At the Institute for music and media science at the Humboldt-University, he was employed from 2012 to 2014 as a Student assistant at the chair of Historical musicology and worked on the Edition of several book projects, including Hermann danuser's "Collected lectures and essays",. He also completed an internship at the German study centre in Venice. During his studies he also worked in dramaturgy, press and public relations at the Staatsoper Hannover, at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and at the Komische Oper Berlin. From 2014 to 2016 he worked as an assistant dramaturgist at the theater Magdeburg, then as a dramaturgist for music theatre, ballet and concert, where he worked as a production dramaturge with directors such as Karen Stone, Michael McCarthy, Jakob Peters-Messer and Aron Stiehl. Since November 2016 he is dramaturge at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden.
