Le Parc
Le Parc

Le Parc is a choreography by Angelin Preljocaj created in 1994, to music by Mozart, for the dancers of the Paris Opera Ballet. The choreographer wonders about the progression of passions and the war between the sexes. It invites you on a journey to the land of the Carte de Tendre1 in a particular style made up of a lyricism tinged with a strong sensuality.
In a setting far from being bucolic, four gardeners, modern Cupids with dark glasses, punctuate the mechanism of sentimental conquests: we seek each other, we tease each other, we observe each other, we desire each other, we refuse each other, but pride ends up giving in by releasing the ardor too long repressed. To music borrowed from Mozart, Preljocaj portrays gallant strategies that lead to love.
The choreographer sets off here in search of the codes and amorous behavior of 17th and 18th century literature, from the platonic loves of La Princesse de Clèves to the licentiousness of Dangerous Liaisons.
Le Parc was created on April 9, 1994 at the Opéra Garnier with two pairs of dancers: Isabelle Guérin and Laurent Hilaire as well as Élisabeth Maurin and Manuel Legris. It was revived at the Opéra Bastille in February and March 1996, in April 1999 and in February 2002. It was also performed at the RomaEuropa Festival in July 1994, at the French Festival in Singapore in October 1995, at the MET in New York in July 1996, at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence in July 1997, at the Royal Opera of the Palace of Versailles in March 1999 and at the War Memorial & Performing Arts Center in San Francisco (California) in May 2001.
This choreography by Angelin Preljocaj received a Prix Benois de la danse (Moscow) in 1995 and the film which was shot at the Paris Opera in 1999 was awarded the "Grand Prix International de Vidéo-Danse" in Nice in December 1999.
