About

The Audi Jugendchorakademie was established by AUDI AG in 2007 for the purpose of giving young singers aged between 16 and 27 the opportunity to be part of a choir at a high artistic level and to make it possible for them to actively participate in the Audi Summer Concerts. During the rehearsal phases the participants receive intensive one-on-one classes as well as vocal coaching and are prepared for the relevant concerts under professional instruction. The current members of the choir are from all over Germany as well as from Austria and South Tyrol. The charitable organization Jugendchorakademie e.V. has overseen the Audi Jugendchorakademie project since the end of December 2016.

In July 2008 the choir celebrated its debut, performing Joseph Haydn’s Creation. Since then it has performed annually as part of the music festival in Ingolstadt. Under the artistic direction of Martin Steidler, professor of choral conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, the Audi Jugendchorakademie has quickly made a name for itself in the youth choir field.

Since 2010 the choir has worked closely together with Kent Nagano. Just recently, in early October 2018, the choir participated in the Fourth Symphonyby Charles Ives in the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg under his baton.

The choir has also had a longstanding working relationship with the Akademie für Alte Musik in Berlin. In 2018 the two bodies gave joint performances of Bach’s St John Passion at the Audi Sommerkonzerte and of Haydn’s Creation at the anniversary festival on the occasion of the choir’s 10th birthday in Niederalteich.

In spring 2019 the choir will participate in two projects with new partners. In March 2019 the choir will be a guest of the Duisburger Philharmoniker, where they will sing the Mozart Requiem, overseen by Christoph Prégardien. In April the ensemble will travel to Helsinki, where it will perform Bach’s St Matthew Passion together with the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra.

The choir has released several CDs and won gold at the International Competition Festival of Advent and Christmas Music in Prague. In addition the Audi Jugendchorakademie won an award at the ‘365 Orte im Land der Ideen’ competition in 2011.
