Adrian Mustea, born in Moldova, began playing the violin at the Lyceum for highly gifted children in his hometown Kishinau at the age of seven. At the age of 14 he first appeared as a soloist with an orchestra. In 1997 he moved to the viola in the class of Tamara Kaftanat.
In the same year he won an international competition and received a scholarship from the Moldovan government to study at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich under Michael Scheitzbach. Since 1999 he studied at the Musikhochschule Detmold in the class of Mikhail Mouller. From 2003 to 2005 he was a member of the orchestra academy of the Bavarian State Orchestra and was subsequently engaged there - first in Tutti, since 2011 as the first solo viola player.
