Thingvellir is a valley in the southwestern part of Iceland, near the Reykjanes peninsula, as well as the national park of the same name, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Althingi at Thingvellir, the oldest parliament in Western Europe, met regularly from 930 until 1798, when it was dissolved by the Danes.
