Bensheim is situated in southern Hesse, in the southwest of Germany. It lies on the Bergstraße, the popular 80-kilometer-long road running along the foot of the mountains from north to south more or less parallel to the Rhine river.

The picturesque Odenwald mountains start next to Bensheim and you also have a great view over the Rhine plain from the city.In the Late Middle Ages, Bensheim received its town rights and its trade and industry started flourishing. Even today, Bensheim with its 40.000 citizens is the economic and cultural center of the district Bergstraße. Due to its mild climate, the city is also called the „German Riviera“. Cultivating grapes is an important part of the local agriculture and the region forms the wine area “Hessian Bergstraße”.The loveable and lively Old Town of Bensheim and its surroundings are definitely worth a visit. You will find numerous boutiques, restaurants, cafés, and plenty of sights such as Alte Gerberei (Old Tannery), Bismarckturm (tower), or Dalberger Hof (former noble estate).Of course, you shouldn´t miss trying the local wine in one of the traditional wine taverns.
