One Thousand and One Nights

One Thousand and One Nights (sometimes referred to as Arabian Nights) is a ballet in two acts by Fikret Amirov to a libretto by playwrights Magsud Ibrahimbeyov and Rustam Ibragimbekov, together with the choreographer Naila Nazirova and artist Togrul Narimanbekov. The libretto is based on episodes from One Thousand and One Nights, a collection of stories and folk tales compiled in Arabic during the Islamic Golden Age.

The ballet premiered in 1979 at the Azerbaijan State Opera and Ballet Theater. 

Revived in 1992. In March 1984, the premiere of the production took place at the Kharkov Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. In 1999 it was staged at the Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre.

The basis of the ballet was the popular "The Story of Tsar Shakhriyar". The ballet also includes plots from other fairy tales - about the adventures of Sinbad the Sailor, about the Rukh Bird, about Aladdin and Princess Budur, about Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.
