Overview

The "Strings of China and the West" cross-border residency program will bring a series of performances that reflect the collision and integration of Chinese and Western music to the audience, including quartet concerts, guqin solo concerts, "Art Life" musician talks between Shanghai Quartet and Chen Leiji, chamber music master dream workshops and guqin master classes. The audience will not only be able to enjoy the classic live performances presented by Shanghai Quartet and Chen Leiji again, but will also witness the first collaboration between the two on the same stage in Chen Leiji's guqin concert, bringing a musical dialogue between guqin and quartet across ancient and modern times.

The Shanghai Quartet, which has dominated the international music scene for more than 40 years, has achieved great success internationally with its interpretation of traditional classical music repertoires. Among the four title music quartets they presented to the Guangzhou audience in this concert, three of them, from Haydn, Schubert to Smetana, are among the most important representative works of the composers; and the works of Zhou Long, the first Chinese winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Music and a very influential composer, are also the repertoire of the Shanghai Quartet. His work "Song of the Yaoqin" will be the finale of the concert.
