Overview
Visit all the main sites from the Berlin Wall to the Brandenburg Gate, from the site of Hitler's bunker to the Reichstag parliament building, and much more. First, you will stroll down Berlin's royal boulevard, Unter den Linden. Here you will retrace the city's evolution from a fishing village into the capital of Prussia, a center of the Enlightenment under Frederick the Great, the scene of occupation by Napoleon, and the capital of Bismarck's German Empire.Then you will delve deep into the history of Berlin. Your guide will take you on time travel from the Teutonic Knights through to its key role in the major events of the twentieth century. Listen to the history of how the city changed from the capital of the Nazi Third Reich to the modern capital of a unified Germany in the new Europe!You'll see Goering's former Luftwaffe HQ and the site of Himmler's former SS and Gestapo HQ at the Topography of Terror. Visit the Memorial for the murdered Jews of Europe and see the site of Hitler's Bunker. Enter the moving Memorial Dedicated to the Victims of War and Tyranny, and go to the location where Nazis burned books in the infamous 1933 book-burning.You will also see a section of the Berlin Wall and spend time at Checkpoint Charlie, the place where an American-Soviet standoff took place and WWIII felt like an imminent threat. The tour finishes with a flourish at the historic and picturesque Pariser Platz, right in front of the beautiful Brandenburg Gate and close to the famous Hotel Adlon.
