Italian set designer Paolo Fantin made his Royal Opera debut in 2015 designing sets for Guillaume Tell, directed by Damiano Michieletto. He returned later in the year on Cavalleria rusticana / Pagliacci, directed by Michieletto.
Since 2007 Fantin has worked regularly with Michieletto, their credits including Mozart’s Da Ponte operas and Die Zauberflöte for La Fenice, Venice, Samson et Dalila for Paris Opéra, La scala di seta for Zürich Opera and La Scala, Milan, Rossini’s Otello for Theater an der Wien, Il trittico for Royal Danish Opera and Theater an der Wien, Un ballo in maschera for La Scala and in Bologna, Cendrillon for Komische Oper Berlin, Madama Butterfly in Turin, Idomeneo for Theater an der Wien and in Tokyo, La bohème, Falstaffand La Cenerentola for Salzburg Festival, The Rake’s Progress for Leipzig Opera and La Fenice, Il viaggio a Reims and Rigoletto for Dutch National Opera, Così fan tutte for Liceu, Barcelona, L’elisir d’amore for La Monnaie, Brussels, La donna del lago for Rossini Opera Festival, Pesaro, and Die Zauberflöte in Florence.
Fantin’s theatre credits with Michieletto include Il ventaglio, The Government Inspector, Divinas palabras and Die Dreigroschenoper.
