After initially studying piano, composition and orchestral direction, Giacomo Sagripanti perfected his skills in the opera repertoire under Donato Renzetti, Bruno Bartoletti, Renato Palumbo, Gianandrea Noseda and Colin Metters. He made his debut appearances in Italy and Germany (Festival della Valle d’Itria, Aslico, and the Theater Lubeck).
He was soon invited to perform at major opera venues, including the Dresden Semperoper (La Cenerentola), La Fenice in Venice (Madama Butterfly), the Zurich Opera (L’Elisir d’amore), Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre (Don Carlo, Un ballo in maschera), the Paris Opera (La Cenerentola, I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Werther, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Carmen), the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville (La Cenerentola), the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia (Rossini’s Stabat Mater), the Aalto Theater in Essen (Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Norma, Il Trovatore), the Seattle Opera (La Cenerentola, Le Comte Ory), the Oviedo Opera (I Capuleti e i Montecchi) as well as at the major festivals (Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro and the Verona Arena). He recently made debut appearances at the Glyndebourne Festival (Don Pasquale), the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich (La Cenerentola, La Favorite), the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona (Il viaggio a Reims), the Deutsche Oper in Berlin (Il Trovatore, Il viaggio a Reims), the Royal Opera House in London (Lucia di Lammermoor), and the Vienna Staatsoper (Cavalleria rusticana / Pagliacci).
This past summer, he conducted Ricciardo e Zoraide at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro. Particularly esteemed in the bel canto repertoire, he also conducts prestigious symphonic ensembles—among them, the RAI Orchestra in Turin, the Essen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Haydn Orchester of Trento and Bolzano, and the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra.
